In a bold move to enhance their customer’s web experience 37signals is dropping IE6 support across all their web applications. Pretty awesome if you ask me! The most recent browser statistics show IE6 at about 27% which is pretty low. Hopefully if IE6 usage keeps dropping the way it has we may see more web applications taking the same initiative by the end of the year.

This is promising news for web designers out there. It’s always frustrating when you build a site and find yourself spending a significant amount of time getting it to display right in IE. I think my biggest pet peeve with IE is its lack of png support. Designing would be a lot less annoying if you didn’t have to worry about AlphaImageLoaders and conditional styles.
