After living in urban areas for the last few years I’ve become fascinated with tiny apartments and the creative ways people utilize small spaces. *faircompanies has a great series of YouTube videos exploring some of these unique homes. The video above is one of my favorites.

Found this amazing video a while back of Ueli Steck doing an alpine speed climb up the Eiger. A 13,000 ft mountain in the Swiss Alps.

Found this great little documentary on Vimeo “about the relationship between the worker and the desk and how this reflects on personality and habits.” Personally, I like to keep my desk very tidy because it helps me focus. On the flip side it’s interesting to hear how a messy desk can spark new ideas and increase creativity.

The short was created by Imaginary Forces in collaboration with Intelligent Life Productions, Team One, and Lexus. “The Desk” is part of a web series title “Lines.”

Wired Magazine – If your a fan of Wired Magazine this app is a must have. The designers clearly put a lot of thought into translating the magazine experience to a digital form. My only complaints are that there’s no subscription plan and no way to share articles via email or social networks.

Sketchypad – A fantastic mockup app for interface designers. The controls can be a bit tricky at times but the developer has made many improvements since it’s release. What’s also great is the ability to export balsamiq files for future editing on your desktop.

Autodesk SketchBook – Hands down the best Photoshop-like application in the app store.

Penultimate – great app for casual doodling, note taking, or quickly visualizing your ideas.

Reeder – my favorite feed reader on the iPad. The design is very minimalistic which is great for consuming tons of articles and text. You can also tell that a lot of attention went into the placement of buttons and controls. No matter which way you’re holding the iPad the controls always are in a convenient position.

Simplenote – How Apple should have made their notes app. Syncing between your iPhone, iPad, and now web app make this the best way to keep your notes with you at all times.

Just discovered this great two part interview with legendary title designer Kyle Cooper on Forget the Film, Watch the Titles. Cooper explains some of his methods and shares some of title designs that inspired him in the past. Among the few are the The Dead Zone, To Kill A Mockingbird, and Walk on the Wild Side. During my undecided college years it was Kyle Cooper’s work that inspired me to pursue a career in film, motion graphics, and design. Every time I fly somewhere think of this great pre-flight safety video by Virgin America. Pretty much every safety video I’ve seen before is horribly drab so it’s nice to see an airline go for something creative and funny. The animation was done by Wildbrain in San Francisco.
